- There
will be no regular Rotary Club meetings on December 25 and
January 1.
Enjoy the holidays, and we'll see you again in 2003!
- On
March 20, 2003 the Ithaca Rotary Club will officially charter
a new Rotarac Club at Ithaca College. The group became active
during the Fall term with about 20 involved students. Currently,
they are working on a shoebox project to send to Bulgaria.
We'll provide more information as we get closer to the chartering
event.

- New
Member Introduction: Chris
Sanchirico, sponsored by Joanne Florino
Chris first came to Ithaca from Yorktown Heights, NY in
1975 to attend Cornell University. She graduated in 1977
with a BS in Plant Science, and remained in Ithaca to work
as a lab technician at Cornell. Chris later decided to change
careers in the mid-nineties in order to be more involved
in the community, so she joined the Literacy Volunteers
of Tompkins County for three years becoming the Interim
Executive Director. In January 2000, she earned a Masters
in Communications at Ithaca College. Currently, Chris is
the Executive Director at the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance.
Chris is married to Donald Specker, and has three children:
Andrew, 25, working with Americorps in Iowa; Laura, 16,
and Emily, 14, both honors students at Ithaca High School.
Please take a moment to welcome Chris into the Ithaca Rotary
Club!
- Our
Ambassadorial Scholars
Today we met two of our Ambassadorial Scholars, and
they said a few words to the club.
| Jiyoung
Ahn, from Korea, came to us two years ago as
a Scholar. She stayed on in Ithaca to complete a five
year doctoral program in Nutrition. Jiyoung thanked
the Rotarians for this opportunity we helped to provide. |
 |
Mauro
Calderon is our Ambassadorial Scholar for this
year. He is from Grenoble, France, and speaks French,
Spanish, and English. Mauro enjoys sports, movies,
traveling, and listening to music. He is now enrolled
in the College of Engineering at Cornell University,
and working on a Masters of Engineering in the School
of Operations, Research, and Industrial Engineering.
Mauro is enjoying a true international experience
here in the States, as his roommates come from Greece,
Ireland, and Australia. The Australian roommate is
Polish, so the four of them and Jiyoung Ahn often
meet for dinner for some lively international discussions.

"Ithaca
College Madrigals"
|
|
The Rotary Club meet at Emmerson Suites at Ithaca College
this week to enjoy the enchanting voices of the Ithaca College
Madrigals. Lawrence Doebler conducted the IC student group
with traditional carols from the 16th and 17th centuries.
We
would like to offer special thanks to Ithaca College for their
hospitality and to Peggy Williams, President of Ithaca College
and honorary Rotarian, who helped make today's arrangements
possible.
