  • The NEXT Ithaca Rotary Club meeting will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2003. Happy New Year!
  • The 2002 Pride of Ownership Awards are now presented on the Ithaca Rotary Website. Learn more about the recipients on this website!
  • The Salvation Army has been behind in their collecting goals for 2002, so our club did an impromptu collection during the meeting. We raised $585 in one luncheon!
  • The Rotary PT Cruiser has a new owner!
The winner was Darlene Carpenter of Apalachin, NY . She purchased the winning ticket from the Rotarians from the Hillcrest Club in the Oakdale Mall. Darlene is a nurse and her husband is disabled. Hopefully, the car was a welcomed Christmas present. She picked up the car today. (Picture should be on the district website.)

The District made about $16,000 on the raffle, and Dist. Governor Bob Grantham offers his sincere appreciation to all Rotarians for the effort put into making our first major fund raiser a great success.
  • New Member Introduction
John Minikes, sponsored by Bill Bellemy

  • Fellow Rotarian Dave Flinn recently had a significant health scare, but he is now in the clear. Below is a note from Dave about what happened:

"On Thursday, December 12, I entered Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca to have a mass removed from my colon, which had been discovered in a routine colonoscopy a week earlier. The operation was successful, but I needed a stay in the hospital to recover.

On Tuesday December 17, I received the pathologist's report which said that no evidence of cancer was found in the lymph nodes, and the mass had not penetrated the colon wall. All good news, and perhaps the best word we could have received for Christmas. I am still recovering, of course, and will be taking things easy for a while; but it surely was a good Christmas in the Flinn
    household.

My thanks to all who sent email and cards, before, during and after my surgery. Someday, I may get the chance to thank you individually; but rest assured that all your contributions were greatly appreciated; and, I am sure, contributed to the success of the whole project. For now, thank you, thank you, thank you."

  • Mary-Lynn Cummings was very happy for Jack Burns, because he's a heck of a guy.
  • Dave Cook announced that the Salvation Army was way behind on their kettle drive, and that they need much more help this year (see announcement above!).
  • David Flaccus was happy for each of our three exchange students, and special thanks to Mary Trochum for hosting a wonderful party for the students.
  • Dale Flinn announced that his father, Dale, has successful recovered from his recent surgery to remove a large mass discovered after a routine colonoscopy.
  • Peter McClellen thanked Dick Page for the great new collection boxes that he built for this year's Share the Warmth campaign.

"Our newly elected Assemblywoman for District 125"
Barbara Lifton

Barbara Lifton spoke to us about the difficulties that we now face when looking at the future of our state's budget. We are going to have to deal with major financial deficiencies, which will bring difficult decisions for our legislators. Barbara plans to focus on three priorities of pre-K through 12th grade Education, health care, and job creation. She elaborated on each of these points, and which specific issues were most critical.

Barbara is very interested in hearing from you, and you may contact the district office at 277-8030. E-mail is not currently available.
