8: "DestiNY USA and the Carousel Mall Expansion"
David Aitken, Pyramid Company David Aitken discussed the very untraditional development project to bring
a
new destination point in Upstate New York. Pyramid Company is very ambitious
in their goals and wants to transform this region and provide greater impacts
than what we might expect from a traditional shopping mall.
Why Syracuse and Upstate New York? First, this area provides convenient
access
by its geographically central location, and direct connection to Interstate
81
and 90. Second, there are 70 million people in reasonable proximity which
can
provide an outstanding customer base for the new destination. The goal is
not
only to drive people from all of the East Coast to this specific location,
but
to bring these customers to all of the great resources available in all of
Upstate New York.
This is planned to be a huge marketing effort featuring Upstate New York.
Think about the “I Love New York” campaign all over again
to transform Upstate
into a strong tourist and retail destination. The sky is the limit with the
Pyramid Company’s plans, and you should keep a close eye on these
exciting
developments that can bring great opportunities to our area.
About the Speaker: David Aitken has lived in Syracuse, NY since 1990 when
he
attended Syracuse University earning a Master’s degree in journalism.
He has
worked with the Pyramid Company for several years, and is an executive on
the
DestiNY USA expansion.

15: "Over
Time and Through The Seasons"
Don Rakow, Director of the Cornell Plantations
Fellow Rotarian Don Rakow presented to our club a review of the Cornell
Plantations. The entire plantation system consists of several sections
covering over 3,000 acres. This includes Fall Creek Gorge to the north and
Cascadilla Gorge to the south, which surround Cornell's campus with corridors
of green. Most visitors see the gardens in the Spring, but each season brings
out a special beauty and color that is worth see again.
The purposes of Cornell Plantations are to manage, protect and enhance the
living botanical collections and natural areas around Cornell for the benefit
of the university community and the public. They also strive to be an
important resource for the plant and natural sciences on campus providing
resources for research, education, and cultural growth.
To learn more about the
Plantations before you visit, check out their website. |
