Temple
Beth El, Rabbi Scott Levi Glass
Education
& Program Center Courtyard Building, 404 North Tioga Street
|
| When
Temple Beth El needed more room for congregation activities,
it acquired the property next door at 404 North Tioga
Street for use as an education and program center. Connecting
the residential building to the stylistically different
temple presented a challenge, but the design resulted
in a graceful building that links the two. The small building
and porch echo proportions, forms, and detailing of the
former residence while harmonizing with the synagogue
and creating a small welcoming entry courtyard which is
enhanced with paving of historic State Street bricks. |
