International Service Committee Ithaca Sunrise Rotarians actively participate in and financially support the programs of the Rotary Foundation as well as the Youth Exchange Program of District 7170. Our primary commitment includes the following program areas:
The Ithaca Sunrise Rotary Club, in the spirit of inter-club cooperation with the Ithaca and Ithaca-Cayuga Rotary Clubs, supports two foundation programs sponsored by District 7170. As the western anchor of Rotary District 7170, Ithaca and the finger lakes region of Central New York extends a warm welcome to group study exchange team members from the far corners of the Rotary world, including districts in India, South Korea, South Africa, Argentina, Nigeria, Germany and Turkey (1999), to name a few. In addition, the Ithaca clubs annually provide the cadre of scholar counselors for six to ten Ambassadorial Scholars. These Ambassadorial Scholars, with approval of the Rotary Foundation, have selected to study at Cornell University or Ithaca College, two highly respected institutions of higher learning, located in Ithaca. Ithaca Sunrise actively participates in the Youth Exchange program of District 7170. We have hosted high school age students from Sweden, Germany, Japan, France, Bolivia and Finland (1998-1999 Rotary year) and sponsored students to the Netherlands, France and Argentina. Many of our club members support the programs of the Rotary Foundation by participating as Paul Harris Sustaining Members. Since the inception of our club in 1986, we have recognized fifteen of our members as Paul Harris Fellows. In addition our club enjoys a tradition of recognizing non-Rotarian members of our community as honorary Paul Harris Fellows for exemplary community service. We thank the nine members so honored for their commitment, compassion and diligence in making our community a wonderful place to live. |
