Vocational Service Committee Vocational Service centers around career choices for students in middle and high school. We visit schools at career day activities and introduce students to the career choices we have made, with a 45 minute presentation. Students choose which presentations they would like to attend. Roatarian speakers might bring slides and other props to help explain what it is that we do with our time during our work day. Other vocatinal services are BOCES and the related activities of the VoPro program. BOCES is a three-county school district, state and locally funded vocational training program. High School students attend half-day sessions in electronics, carpentry, commercial art, cosmotology, culinary arts, automobile technology, nursing and various other engineering and health related fields. The Rotary clubs fund scholarships in these fields for those students unable to cover expenses not covered by school district's contributions. Loans at no interest are also available from these funds. Annual "VoPro of the Year," and other awards, are presented at a special night in May by the Rotary Clubs in the area. The Ithaca Sunrise Rotary Club's annual spaghetti dinner raises funds to enable us to offer a scholarshiip of $750 which is donated to this program. |
